The entrance to Mount Rainier National Park.
A tunnel carved though the rock. I did
not notice any concrete or additional support.
t was/is difficult to select only a few photos representing the
views along the way.
Mount Rainier from afar.
Like many others before me I could not resist capturing
Mount Rainier in one of several reflection pools (lakes)
along the way.
July 01, 2015. Overnight in Packwood, Washington. Our second day at this location.
We planned to stay a second night at the Hotel Packwood so we did not have to load the bikes before we started our day. Breakfast was a challenge, as there were no restaurants in town that was open for breakfast. There were two places open for our late dinner last night, the local bar where hamburgers were available, and the local pizza store. We opted for pizza.
Packwood, Washington (Pop. 1, 130) has one grocery store, a small (by today's standards) IGA grocery. They offered egg, cheese, and bacon sandwiches for breaakfast, so that is what we had.
Then we were on our way to Mount Rainier National Park. We had planned to first go to the north side of the mountain, identified on the map as Sunrise, and then go to the south side to the most popular place on the park, a place called Paradise. Yes, there is a story behind both names, but I do not have enough space here to re-tell each story.
The ride along the way to both our target locations was beautiful beyond description. I made lots of photos, and I have included some with this posting, but even the best of photos cannot capture the grandeur of it all.
Our entire day was dedicated to the national park and views of Mount Rainier. Late in the day we stopped at a restaurant (The Copper Kettle) recommended by the lady that owns and runs Hotel Packwood, and the food was good, prompt, and came with excellent service.
Along the way today we met and talked to people from across the US who were experiencing the beauty of the park in their own way. No one expressed disappointment.
Another good day.
